Paula Winner Barnett advises both public and private companies across a
number of industries, including cannabis, technology, manufacturing and
distribution of goods in commerce, finance, and the Internet.
Paula has worked at both large law firms and as general counsel of multinational
corporations, which has given her a wide breadth of experience as a lawyer
and as a businessperson and a unique perspective on helping companies
build profitable businesses. Paula acts as strategic counsel, advising
emerging growth, development stage, and middle market companies on venture
capital and other financings, securities law and other regulatory compliance,
corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic
alliances, commercial transactions, licensing, intellectual property,
employment, and general corporate matters.
In addition to cannabis, Paula has worked in a number of highly regulated
industries, such as financial services and technology, and has deep experience
working through complex regulatory schemes, such as securities, privacy
and export regulation laws, in the United States and in many countries
on all continents. She has successfully helped companies navigate these
complex, sometimes conflicting and evolving regulatory schemes, setting
up infrastructure processes so that her clients can focus their time and
energy on productivity and growth.
Paula received her B.A. in Economics,
magna cum laude, from Columbia University in 1987 and her J.D., Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar,
in 1990 from Columbia University School of Law. She is admitted to practice
law in the State of California.
