Carl A. Hjort, III serves as Intellectual Property Group Leader at Cantafio
& Song PLLC.
For over 16 years, Mr. Hjort has been representing clients in patent and
trademark infringement litigation in courts across the country. Mr. Hjort
has broad experience in contested matters at the United States Patent
and Trademark Office (USPTO) representing many clients in trademark opposition
and cancellation proceedings, patent inter partes review proceedings,
and patent reexaminations. He has also provided opinions relative to patent
infringement and validity issues.
Mr. Hjort has drafted and prosecuted patent applications in diverse technology
areas including ergonomic devices, sensor systems, traffic safety devices,
LED lighting, sporting goods and outdoor products, consumer products and
vehicle tracking systems. Mr. Hjort counsels clients on branding issues
and obtaining and enforcing trademark rights. Mr. Hjort works with artists
and creative entities to register and enforce copyrights. He also assists
clients on IP transactional and due diligence matters. Mr. Hjort serves
as outside general counsel for Adapt Global, Inc., an international manufacturer
of ergonomic office furniture.
Mr. Hjort is licensed to practice in the state courts of Colorado, New
York, and Ohio, and is a registered patent attorney with the USPTO. Mr.
Hjort is admitted to practice in numerous U.S. District Courts throughout
the country, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Federal, Second and Tenth
Circuits and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Hjort received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering
from Case Western Reserve University and his Juris Doctor magna cum laude
from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
Mr. Hjort resides in Denver with his wife and their dogs, cats and horses.
In his spare time, Mr. Hjort enjoys homebrewing; skiing, hiking, and boating
in the Colorado mountains; and working on his automotive projects.
